YOU CAN BE A ‘BLESSED’ MAN OR WOMAN!

Be like a tree . . . with a great root system

What is it to be ‘blessed’?

According to Psalm 1 the ‘Blessed Man or Woman’ is like a tree:

  • Planted by the rivers of water
  • Productive in that he or she brings forth fruit in its season
  • Perennial in that his or her leaf does not wither
  • Prosperous in whatever he or she does

The ‘Blessed Man or Woman’ tends to stand out because:

  • Their character is deeper
  • Their ideas are fresher
  • Their spirit is softer
  • Their courage greater
  • Their leadership is better
  • Their concerns are wider
  • Their compassion is more genuine
  • Their convictions are more concrete

And there is more:

  • They are joyful in spite of difficult circumstances
  • They show wisdom far beyond their years
  • They think out of the box and are full of surprises
  • They have ideas and actions that can be trusted

How can this be so?  What makes all of this possible?

  • Because they have a spiritual root system that goes down to streams of living water!

Questions:

  • From where does your ‘root system’ draw its life?
  • Have you been too busy with ‘busyness’?
  • Do you know that ‘busyness’ can be closely tied to ‘worldliness’?
  • Have you been caught up with society’s agenda and you’ve neglected being with God?
  • Is it possible that you have allowed your quality time with the Lord to be diminished?

Thoughts to consider:

  • Any way you cut it, a key ingredient to prospering is –time. Not left-over time, not throw-away time, but quality time!
  • Quality time for meditation! Quality time for intimate communion! Unhurried, uninterrupted quality time with the Lord!
  • Blessed times by the ‘rivers of water’ that flow from the Head Waters Himself!

Another Layer of Healing Today

Today I celebrate recieving my bachelors degree with my most valuable treasures-my children!

Preparing to attend my graduation reception tonight at Texas State and Kait just walked up to me and said, “I am so proud of you Mom, and I am so glad you did not graduate 20 years ago because I probably would not be here today.”

Those words of truth just pierced through 18 years of “a nagging little voice of condemnation” that has plagued me for not completing my bachelors degree…’and just being a mom.’

Oh my goodness…my original plan was to be an electrical engineer and not have any children…Can you see how God rescued me?

The tears keep flowing and sobs keep coming because of the pain of growing up being indoctrinated with “I can do anything and be anything I want and success is measured in degrees and wealth and titles-and women can do anything a man can do.” For nearly 50 years women have been compelled to ‘be successful’ and it causes a great divide within their own minds as they struggle with what that means in our society.
Twenty years ago I never understood the blessings of children! I gratefully thank God He intervened and worked out for my good what I considered a “failure” (not finishing my degree before having children) and gave me what I consider my most valuable treasures, my seven blessings, my children!Family_1

Discover and Empower A Child

A Humbling Video Production Day Today

Here is just a quick update on the Discover and Empower Series. The last month has been EXTREMELY difficult. I have personally been stretched further than I could possibly imagine as I have attempted to create this course. It seemed as if whatever topic I chose to share write about, empowering kindness for example-brought out the exact opposite in my own children-meanness and selfishness. We have gone into overdrive here, in the Schober home, focused on teaching kindness and respect. Although we have had many victories along the way, there seems to be many more battles that need to be won.

My biggest challenge is teaching what I am still learning myself. I know about the tools, resources and insights I have gained along the way-and yet I still sat in a heap of tears today after disciplining one of my children. I know we wrestle not against flesh and blood…and yet it seems to be the flesh and blood people I live with that can bring out the worst in me. Today I experienced deep sorrow and pain over a situation with one of my strong ‘little ones.’  And 2 hours later was video production time!!

For awhile I was tempted to reschedule…but instead, chose to keep my commitment. My perspective of Discovering and Empowering A Child was covered today with humility-as I am still battling some of the very issues I have had victories over in the past.  The tools of Discovery help.  Empowering a child is life changing.  However, it is God’s presence and wisdom-at any given time-that is the only guarantee.  I have done my best.  I have devoted my life to caring for and teaching my children.  I have spent years studying my children, finding tools and resources of discovering and empowering, and still have days that are overshadowed with doubt or concern.

In my Pursuit of Peace I have come to the place where I go to bed at night and contemplate my day and my actions as a wife and mother.  I am at peace with God.  Although I make mistakes at times, I believe God is pleased with the attention and focus I have placed on my children.  I love the good days.  Its so easy to write and share during the good times, when you feel as if you could shout your message from a mountaintop.  Today, I have chosen to write, share and create the video for Discover and Empower A Child from a place of quiet, deeper understanding-that without God’s help-everything else is just ‘words’ and is meaningless.

My prayer is that through all that I do God will get the credit He deserves.  It is only through God that I can do anything good at all.

‘Kristin’s Heart’ Again

 Kristin3 weeks ago…

I pulled out of the driveway heading toward a Classical Conversation Information Meeting when my phone rang.  My friend Debra started the conversation off by saying, “Everything is ok, I’m not calling to alarm you, but Kristin (my ten year old who was with her) was complaining of shortness of breath and had an elevated heart rate.”  Debra continued, “We just watched the first 15 minutes of Captain America  and Kristin started to really feel bad so we left the movie theater and I have her laying down in my car.”

Well my plans changed in an instant.  Lately, I continue to be reminded that ‘though a man plans his course, the Lord determines his steps’.  I went and picked up my daughter and began to assess the situation.

Forgiveness Is Very Powerful

Do not Give the Devil a Foothold

Forgiveness is very powerful. It is critically important to stay at peace and to guard your heart against an unforgiving spirit. We are in a mighty spiritual battle and need to stay on the offensive. Holding a grudge and keeping a bitter attitude actually gives the devil permission to attack you from within your own heart and mind.  Ephesians 4:26-27 says, In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. Can you believe that?  You are the one that has been hurt or wounded and then while you are suffering in your pain, holding an offense against someone, you actually give the devil permission to hurt you more!
